As the international community's attention is on Iran's nuclear ambition, human rights violations, especially against non-Muslims in Iran, has increased significantly. Though recognized non-Muslim minorities in Iran (Jews, Christians and Zoroastarians) enjoy a relative freedom, Baha'i and converts from Islam to Christianity face life threatening conditions. Throughout 2006 and 2007, the police continued arbitrary detention and intimidation of converts, often resulting in hefty bails and threats of legal charges of treason, which is punishable by death. More recently, the world watched as Iranian courts ordered the execution of Christian Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani. Advocates around the world joined forces to petition and decry this injustice, and in late 2012 Nadarkhani was released. However, other wrongly imrprisoned Christians continue to face an uncertain future.
